20031 to receive overhaul and new livery at KWVR

Some news from the Keighley and Worth Valley railway today, 20031 will be receiving an overhaul and a new livery.

Class 20, 20031 owned by the Keighley and Worth Valley railway will be reviving an overhaul. This news comes after the railway on it’s Facebook said “20031 began to show it’s age, prompting the decision to withdraw it from traffic and proceed with an overhaul”

It then went on to detail the work to be carried out in the overhaul. This includes the rebuild of all braking equipment, bodywork attention with rotten steel replaced, replacing the windows and compressors, exhausts, fuel pumps and injectors sent away to be overhauled.

As well as the repairs to the locomotive, the Facebook post also outlined that the class 20 would be put into a new livery. It stated that “once all the work is complete, 20031 will be finished in a new livery, although this has yet to be decided”. This led the comments to leave suggestions such as BR green with small yellow panels or BR corporate blue. A favourite seemed to be railfreight grey with a red stripe, as carried by LSL’s 20118 and 20132.

It will be interesting to see what livery the railway decide to give 20031. It has been at the KWVR for over 30 years and in my opinion suited the railfreight coal sector livery. I would prefer a livery that is lesser used dissimilar to the likes of corporate blue. Regardless it is brilliant to see another heritage diesel locomotive getting the care it deserves and the team at the Keighley and Worth Valley railway are sure to do an amazing job as they have done in the past.
