British Rail Returns
Britain’s railways are now in public ownership.
On Thursday the 20th of May 2021, Grant Shapps (Secretary of State for Transport of the United Kingdom) announced that the franchises introduced during the Beeching Act (1962) would be removed – essentially reversing the Beeching Act. All of the franchises will be brought back into government ownership and brought underneath the new umbrella named Great British Railways. This is an effort to ease stress on passengers and make the railway run with better co-operation. According to Mr Shapps, this change will make trains run on time.
