More seats and extra services for 1872 Cup at Hampden

ScotRail is preparing to help thousands of rugby fans travel to Barclays Hampden this weekend for the highly anticipated 1872 Cup clash between Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby.

The 1872 Cup is one of the oldest and most fiercely contested rivalries in world rugby, played annually between Scotland’s two professional clubs.

Steeped in history, regional pride, and sporting drama, the fixture celebrates the world’s first inter-district rugby match, which took place in 1872.

Kick-off is at 3:00pm on Saturday, 20 December, and to support fans heading to the game, ScotRail will run additional services and provide extra seats before and after the match.

The extra trains will operate between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida, offering convenient travel to and from the stadium.

Mount Florida station is just a five-minute walk from Barclays Hampden, making it the ideal route for supporters.

Fans are encouraged to travel early and allow plenty of time for entry into the ground. Queuing systems will be in place at Glasgow Central before the match and at Mount Florida after full-time to help manage crowds safely.

Additional ScotRail staff will be on hand at key locations to assist customers and keep people moving.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said:

“ScotRail is proud to support the 1872 Cup and help thousands of fans travel to Hampden for this historic match.

“We’re adding more services and more seats to make journeys as safe and comfortable as possible.

“Travelling by train is a convenient, reliable, and sustainable way to get to the game. To ensure a smooth experience, fans should plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, and buy their return tickets to Mount Florida in advance.”
